My 1st Big DIY Project – Making A Play Kitchen
Back in January, while surfing Pintrest, I came across this awesome idea.
An entertainment center turned play kitchen. I thought this was a great project, my husband and I could do for our niece’s birthday present. Since their birthdays are few months away, I knew I would have enough time to make it. And surely it doesn’t look that difficult to make, right?! I have absolutely no expertise in re-finishing furniture or have ever tackled a DIY project this “big” before. But I have to tell you I am so excited about making this!
After looking at a lot of designs by many talented people, I decided to start shopping Craig’s List for an entertainment center. Here is what I found.
I picked up this “beauty” for 20 dollars.
The next step was to draw out a design. I’m in no way an artist but I hope you can get a good idea.
After I finished drawing out the design. I wrote out a list of all the necessary items. The list is kind of long, if you are interested in all of the details click here.
One of the highlights of planning this project out was picking out colors. Two weeks ago when I made the marinara recipe with my sister-in-law, that same day we took a trip to the Home Depot and picked out the paint colors and accessory colors for her daughters.
We also picked out some of the handles for the oven door and refrigerator handle. I’m still shopping around for the best deal! These are a little much at Home Depot. My friend Deanna suggested trying the Habitat for Humanity store. I’ll be checking there next week.
Purchasing the entertainment center, drawing out the design, picking out colors and finishings, has taken 4 weeks so far. I thought this project wouldn’t take long. It’s a very detailed project. I’m sure some might be super fast at designing and going out to get everything, but I’m enjoying the small simple steps to making this project enjoyable, fun and cost effective.
Next week, I’ll be sharing with you my first attempt at sanding. It should be an interesting post! I’m so excited to see how this kitchen project will turn out! I hope you will join me every Friday and see what we have done.
