Preparing Our Heart and Home for the Holiday – Gratefulness by Giving Back

Thank you for joining this months series, “Preparing Our Heart and Home for the Holidays.”  To prepare in advance for the an enjoyable holiday, join me each morning (Monday-Friday) as we cover at least one task that we want to accomplish. Start any time and share your progress in the comments!

Yesterday, my friend hosted a little get together to make boxes for Operation Christmas Child.  We started our little event with lunch and then we gathered all the kids in one room to watch the video. Next, we all went to the dining room where my friends and I had all the toys and personal items to fill the boxes for the children. All of our kids drew pictures for their new friend miles away. It was neat to watch them put all the toys in the boxes.

I couldn’t help but be thankful for all we have.  This is the first year we’ve donated to this cause but I think it’s just the beginning to a new family tradition!

Today’s Bible Verse:

You have filled my heart with greater joy then when their grain and new wine abound. Psalm 4:7

Today’s Task:

  •  Today continue playing your favorite music in your home and keeping your candle lit.
  • Write down 7 more things you are thankful for and focus on one each day.
  • Write down your dessert ideas for Thanksgiving dinner. If you are not hosting, check in with your host today and see if they need anything.
What are you most thankful for today? What holiday giving traditions do you do with your family?

  1. We’ve done OCC for several years. It’s a wonderful way to get the whole family – esp small children – involved in giving!

    • I’m excited to see as my son gets older how he enjoys it each year. :)

  2. This was my husband and my first year doing OCC. What a great program and concept! We are looking forward to continuing in the future.
