Preparing our Hearts and Home for the Holidays – Table Setting

Thank you for joining this months series. Each day we are covering at least one task that we want to accomplish to help us be more prepared for for the holidays. I will post each morning, Monday through Friday. I hope you’ll join in too!

I’ve never been a huge set-the-table-fancy type but I am beginning to dabble with decorating and creating a table setting is quite fun! I hope you have fun with today’s task!

Today’s verse:

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10,12

Today’s Task is inventorying your table setting items and identifying what you need.

  • At your most convenient time today (or this weekend) resource your goals and to do list. Do that item(s) this weekend.
  • Next, set your time for at least 20 minutes.
If you are the host of Thanksgiving:
  • Inventory what fall items you have to make your own table setting: pumpkins, silk flowers, table cloths and napkins? Do you need any of these?
  • Inventory serving items: plates, glasses, and flatware. Do you need more of any of these items? If not, ask your friends or family first. Then decided, “Do I really need more or will the paper option be a better choice this year.” Remember, aim to keep it simple. If you need to purchase them, add them to your on going shopping list.
  • If you are planning on ordering a table fresh flower centerpiece consider ordering that today as well.
  • If you are planning on making your own, take a few minutes to browse through these inspiration tablescapes in helping you decide what to make. Write down a list of what you want to make this weekend. Be reasonable with what you can accomplish
  • Determine where the tables will go. How many will you need? Do you need to borrow any more?
  • Add items to your shopping list, and organized it in your holiday management notebook.
If you are a guest for Thanksgiving
  • Call your host today and find out if they need anything. Kitchen supplies, tables, chairs or food and beverage items. This will help them keep their costs down too by offering. :)
  • Consider making a hostess basket.  I love making a breakfast basket for friends who host a BBQ or dinner party. Its a great way to make their morning the next day. I have a couple ideas for your here, here and here. Or maybe a bouquet of flowers would be right up your ally. I have one to share with you here.
  • Add items to your shopping list and organized it in your holiday notebook.

Here is my planned table setting.

I’m planning a very natural table setting, I have pumpkins, pine cones, gold charger plates, linen napkins (that were my grandmothers), and taper candles. The only things that I purchased were champagne colored charger plates for a dollar each (I have 12) and real pumpkins.

I love this fun table idea for kids. So it will be my inspiration for their table.  I might also have some thanksgiving trivia at the buffet table too! We will see. I’ll be sharing pictures of our tables all set up on Thanksgiving morning.

  1. Thanks for coming by! I love your organizing ideas and setting the timer. My approach is not this intentional and I’m going to work on that this holiday season. I will not be hosting Thanksgiving, but I will be a guest. And I will definitely check in with my hostess now to see if she needs anything. Bless you!

  2. Oops…meant to share my tablescape idea. I keep it pretty simple with just some candlesticks in autumn colors, a few floating leaf candles in pretty glass holders, real colorful foliage, a few mini pumpkins, gourds, and colorful mini corn.
