Preparing Our Hearts and Homes for the Holidays – Intro and Holiday Goals

Welcome to the beautiful month of November friends!

I’m trying something a little new here at Simply My Kitchen this month. I am going to share with you how I am preparing my heart and home for the holidays. Today, I want to get you on board and have join me also! I have tons of ideas from organiztional check lists, menu planning, recipes and most importantly focusing on our family. Are you ready for a fun and exciting month?! Well lets prepare our hearts and homes for a great holiday season together.

Here is how it will work. I will write at least 5 days a week. In my posts, I will share a bible verse or quote that helps us focus thoughts and energy on our family. Secondly, I will have daily task that we can do within our home to prepare us for the holidays.  I will aim to keep each task less then 15 minutes, although as we get closer to Thanksgiving some tasks may require more time.

Todays task is to write down your holiday goals.

Either by yourself or with your family write down some things you’d like to do this season as a family. Consider what you can do and what you can’t do. It’s okay to say no to somethings. I’m sure if you are like me, you want to keep things simple. Therefore, you might have to say no to something and do what works best for your family! For today’s purposes just write down what you’d like to do. And tomorrow we talking about planning it all out! :) For a goal planning list, click here. 

I’ve been  goal setting (writing them down at least) for the last year and half. It’s been a learned process and to help keep me accountable I am going to share mine with you today.

(Note: some my goals are things I’ve been working on for a few months. They are specific to me and my current season in life. Your goals will  and should look different because they are reflective of you. Which is great! I share mine to help keep me accountable and give you an example of how you might write out your own goals.)  

I love this way of how to set goals. I first saw it on Money Saving Mom.  When writing down your goals today think about this method. Also, ponder on this verse from Philippians 4:8: finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

My November Goals


  •  Spend time in God’s word every morning
  • Write out 25 things I am thankful for and focus on each one daily.

Family and Friends 

  • Each night at the dinner table I want to reflect on what we are thankful for and add it to our thankful tree (I’ll be sharing more about our thankful tree later in this series).
  • Spend quality time with friends that will be staying with us for a week
  •  Write two notes to friends
  • Attend a dinner party
  • Go on two family outings to local {free} attractions
  • Host Thanksgiving at our house
  • Take holiday pictures
  • Plan Little Buddies birthday party


  • I plan to exercise at least 25 minutes a day for 5 days a week.  To help me stay accountable, I follow Peak 313 and Weigh In Wednesdays.
  • I want to make at least one homemade craft item for a Christmas gift


  • Each Monday for the Month of November I will follow and apply the, “Make Your Home a Haven  Challenge” on I will be posting those challenges here on Mondays as well.
  • Create a holiday binder that includes check lists, activities and holiday recipes.
  • Accomplish at least one holiday task each day for the month of November

  1. I love this! I woke up this morning feeling like I needed time to gather my thoughts, but knew I had a day of busyness ahead of me. Then, one thing was cancelled and now I’m feeling more relaxed and protective of my day.

    One of my goals for November is getting back on track with healthy living. I took this week off from running for a number of reasons, including my hip. That’s fine, and now it’s time to exercise. I also have been letting wheat creep back into my diet. With the onslaught of Halloween candy, I need to make sure I’m nourishing myself and my family with healthy food.

    • Thank you Barb for stopping by! I hope you had a great day yesterday! I didn’t add it to my list here online but that is one of our goals also, to eat more healthfully this month. That halloween candy is very tempting! I’m still trying to figure out what to do with it. Make cookies with, give it away as “gifts” or save it for when friends or family visits. I might just have to hide it somewhere. I just can’t throw it away! Or should I? :) Anyways, yes healthy eating is another goal of ours too! That is great you can stay away from wheat so well. I’d have hard time with that one, I’m sure you know how much I love to make bread. I hope you have a fabulous weekend and I hope you meet all your goals this month, they sound like great ones to accomplish!
